FARGO, ND (Valley News Live) – A fundraising event to help support local theater teacher Rebecca Saari will take place Friday October 8 and Saturday October 9 at Davies High School in Fargo. A cabaret show and silent auction will begin Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Davies High School Theater. A thrift sale (resale) event is scheduled for Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Davies High School Commons.
Rebecca Saari is Artistic and Theater Director and Theater Arts Teacher at Davies High School in Fargo. Over the past ten years, she has brought the stage to life through performances by high school artists, actors / actresses and musicians. Her smile lights up the room and her energy is contagious as she challenges each student to push themselves to grow and develop as an artist. Ms. Saari is the mother of three wonderful children and the wife of Dr. Eric Saari, a choral music teacher at Fargo North High School.
Last July, Ms. Saari was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Historically, its fall has been filled with auditions, production schedules, and many long hours at school helping to prepare students for the next production. Her diagnosis is one that will require months of treatment with many adjustments to her schedule as well as many additional expenses.
Unsurprisingly, she continues to have a positive outlook and has plans to manage a full schedule of fall theater productions through her treatments. Ms Saari’s extended family is not in the area, so her “Fargo Davies Theater Family” (students and parents at Davies High School Theater) have stepped up to help her by partnering with Lend a Hand Up to organize a few fundraisers in the fall. The Lend A Hand Up program provides $ 5,000 in additional funding to increase generosity. “She is an inspiration and a role model for so many students, we knew we had to help and support her and her family,” said one Drama Mama.
