1928 After the birth of talkies, Variety publishes an article focusing on the amount of legitimate theatrical talent in demand for the new medium. Among those sought-after theater actors for the big screen is a Yiddish theater star named Muni Wiesenfreund, whose name was later changed to Paul Muni.

1972 A four-piece compilation in one act by Frank D. Gilroy, entitled Here, opens at the Sheridan Square Playhouse. Featured in Come next tuesday, Twas Brillig, So please be kind, and the title reading are Biff McGuire and Lois Smith. There are only eight performances.

1985 The Negro Ensemble Company presents Trevor Rhone’s Two can play at the Four-Broadway Theater. The play which explores a victory over male chauvinism is directed by Clinton Turner Davis and stars Hazel J. Medina and Sullivan H. Walker.

1999 Laurie Metcalf go back to chicago Steppenwolf Theater Company as Maureen Folan in Martin mcdonagh‘s Leenane’s beauty queen. Directing production is another prodigal son of Steppenwolf, Randall Arney.

2002 Future Tony Award-Winning Musical Hair spray plays its first Broadway premiere at the Neil Simon Theater.

2013 The New York premiere of Itamar Moses and Gaby Alter’s musical Nobody loves you, about a graduate student who unexpectedly takes part in a reality TV show, opens its doors to Off-Broadway’s Second Stage Theater. The cast includes Bryan fenkart, Leslie Kritzer, Lauren Molina, and Rory o’malley.

2016 James Graham and Josie Rourke’s New York Premiere Privacy opens Off-Broadway at the Public Theater. Daniel Radcliffe stars in the boundary-pushing work inspired by a post-Edward Snowden perspective on privacy and technology.
