1904 Set designer and costume designer Oliver Messel was born in London.

1911 Ethel Barrymore given The Twelve Pound Look at the Empire Theater. the James M. Barrie an act is preceded by a reprise of its Alice sitting by the fire also featuring Barrymore. She later visits the vaudeville circuit with the old show.

1957 Tom Ewell, Nancy Olsonand Darren McGavin navigate The tunnel of love at the Royal Theater. Joseph Fields guides and helps to adapt Peter DeVries‘ novel. The comedy sails for 417 performances.

1963 The City Center Light Opera revives Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolf GreenJoseph Fields and Jerome Chodorovit’s wonderful city for 16 performances. Featured artists include Kaye Ballard and Gabriel Dell.

1973 The Great of Coca Cola stars Ron House as a nightclub owner whose family impersonates famous stars to entertain patrons. It has 1,114 performances at the Mercer Arts Theater in New York.

1983 Hoping to continue his success in The magic showWizard Doug Henning plays the title role in the musical Merlin at the Mark Hellinger Theater. The show runs for six months and features Chita Rivera and a young Nathan Lane.

1996 Jonathan Larsonthe alternative rock musical To rent opens Off-Broadway at New York Theater Workshop. It was quickly transferred to the Nederlander Theater on Broadway, where it won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book and Best Music. He also won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

1997 A Broadway revival Anton Chekhovit’s Three sisters opens at the Criterion Theatre. The characteristics of the cast Amy Irving, Lili Taylor, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Calista Flockhart, Billy Crudup, David Strathairn, Jerry Stillerand Eric Stoltz.

2003 The New York City Council overturns a mayoral veto and bans cellphones from Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters. Violators can face a $50 fine and expulsion from the venue. Mayor Michael Bloomberg objects that the law will be impossible to enforce.

2012 An Off-Broadway cover by Paula Vogel How I learned to drivehis dark Pulitzer Prize-winning play, debuts at Second Stage Theater. Directed by Kate Whoriskeythe cast includes Elizabeth Reaser, Norbert Leo Butz, Kevin Cahoon, Jennifer Reganand Marnie Schulenburg.

2013 Betty Buckley returns to the London stage in the Charing Cross Theater production of Jerry Hermannit’s musical Dear world. The production is directed and choreographed by Gillian Lynnethe choreographer who helped guide Buckley to a Tony Award for her portrayal of faded glamorous cat Grizabella in Andrew Lloyd Webberit’s Cats.
