1908 J. Lucifer Mephisto tempts a sculptor to be unfaithful to The kiss of the soul. Produced by Florenz Ziegfeld, the musical stars Ralph Herz, Adeline Genee and Cecil Lean. Harry B. Smith provides the book and Maurice Levi the music.

1944 Cole Porterit’s music Mexican cart ride, with a book of Fields of Dorothy and Fields of Herbert, opens on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre. Featuring Bobby Clark as a fugitive on the run in Mexico, the production ran to 481 performances.

1965 Ulu Grosbard revives Arthur Millerit is A view from the bridge at the Sheridan Square Playhouse. Robert Duval plays the troubled Eddie Carbone and Jon Voight plays Rudolf. It has 780 performances.

1976 Over time, jason robard ranges from Jamie to Tyrone family patriarch, James. Directed by Robards, Long day trip into night played for 11 performances at Brooklyn Academy of Music. Zoe Caldwell co-stars like Mary Tyrone.

1979 wings takes off at the Lyceum Theatre. Originally written for radio, Arthur KopitThe saga of a stroke victim who fights to return to the stars of skill Constance Cummings. John Madden stages all 117 performances.

1988 Sarafina!, the South African musical by Mbongeni Ngema and Hugues Masekela, transfers from Lincoln Center to Broadway’s Cort Theater. The cast is made up of young South African singers. The show received five 1988 Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Musical.

2010 Time stops, Donald Margulies‘Play about reporters who return home from covering the war – only to investigate their own conflicted feelings about life and work – opens on Broadway at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. Laura Linney, Alicia Silverstone, Brian d’Arcy James, and Eric Bogosian Star. The production moved to the Cort Theater later that year, with Christina Ricci replacing Silverstone.

2015 The world premiere of Tom Stoppardit is The difficult problem opens at national theater in London. Nicholas Hytner stages the play about a young researcher exploring matter and consciousness.
