STEVENS POINT – Drama, art and podcast camps will be offered online for youth and adults in May and June by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Continuing Education.

Young people aged 8 to 16 will have the chance to shine in “The Show Must Go Online” at Virtual Theater Camp, from May 26 to June 12 or from June 15 to July 2.

The new musical is designed to be rehearsed and played from a distance. Each actor will receive a scene or song to rehearse, record and download. When all the videos are played in order, they tell the hilarious story of a group of passionate college students desperate to keep their annual musical online.

Led by UW-Stevens Point to Marshfield Theater Director Brad Schmicker, “The Show Must Go Online” is a three-week camp with a minimum of two virtual classroom sessions per week focused on theatrical skills, drama games, l ‘improved performance of actors, props, costumes and other details of the show.

UW-Stevens Point is also offering Point Makers Camp online June 8-13 for high school students and adults. Participants will explore several ways of ‘doing’ including drawing, storytelling, printmaking, and designing symbols and patterns.

They will channel their individuality into original works of visual art and design. At the end of the camp, the original works of art will be displayed in an online virtual gallery.

Participants can register for one or more courses and benefit from a reduction. The registration deadline is June 5.

The Point Podcast Camp will be held online June 15-19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., for high school students and adults.

For this hands-on approach to creating podcasts, participants will review a range of podcasts before creating their own. Topics will include listening, researching, reading, textual analysis, planning, writing, sound editing, and peer review and self-assessment.

The necessary equipment includes a smartphone for audio recording, basic audio editing software (free download) and an Internet connection.

UW-Stevens Point Media Professor Mark Tolstedt will lead the camp.

Registrations are made before June 12.
